E3 2018: Square Enix Presentation

The time arrived for Square Enix to shine and after having some titles announced during the Xbox Conference (be sure to check out our coverage when it goes live) and Hitman being announced prior to the shows, some of us were wondering what Square would show us to keep us wanting more! Without further ado, let’s check out the trailers!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

We saw more of a glimpse of Shadow during the Xbox conference, but we got to see more of the intense cinematics coming in the final part of the Tomb Raider reboot series. It was also great to see some gameplay and as a fan of the stealth elements of the newer Tomb Raider games, being about to drop down and tie someone up to a tree using a rope and then disappearing into the undergrowth is so appealing. Lara will be stalking her prey as she moves through the jungle taking out Trinity. I can already see hours of failing to successfully take down enemies without alerting everyone in the world! With underwater elements, tombs and amazing surroundings, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will hopefully be a fitting end to the reboot series.

Final Fantasy XIV Online

For fans of the Final Fantasy Online titles, you’ve got some updates heading your way with new content for Stormblood and a FFXIV X Monster Hunter Online which looks a little nuts! Nothing else was really said about these updates but there was a fancy trailer showing off some of what’s coming to the game soon!

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

Now we did see this title get announced at the Xbox Conference and will be released in a couple of weeks on June 26th for free! This is also a confirmation that Life is Strange 2 is coming as the devs advised that it will introduce you to some of the new characters for the second season. With the classic Life is Strange look, Captain Spirit looks like it’s got a lot of heart! I for one am excited to jump back into the world of Life is Strange!

Dragonquest XI – Echoes of an Elusive Age

Dragonquest fans rejoice, a new game is coming on 4th September, which you probably already knew about. But did you know about the crossover on offer for Final Fantasy as well? It will be interesting to see how that works, you have a new title to get stuck into very soon!

Babylon’s Fall

A new PS4 and Steam title coming in 2019 is Babylon’s Fall which looks like a historically set Dark Souls style knights vs gigantic beings. Colour us intrigued, Platinum Games, we’re certainly looking forward to seeing more from this game.

Nier: Automata

After being announced at the Xbox conference, this trailer just felt like a reminder that the game is coming to Xbox after finding a ‘new home’. If you’ve been waiting for Nier: Automata to come to Xbox, you are in luck and you won’t have too much longer to wait!

Octopath Traveler

Coming to Nintendo Switch this turn based RPG with 8 different characters to choose from; with its pixelate look seems to be a good fit for the handheld console market. Scheduled for release in July, you won’t have to wait long to add this one to your Switch library!

Just Cause 4

So we saw this title was also announced during the Xbox conference offering more explosions and tornados than you can shake the Black Hand at. This extreme weather will offer new challenges and opportunities for exciting sandbox game play. New vehicles are available to destroy the world in the way that you want and Rico will still be grappling around and also having the ability to make vehicles fly… you’ll have to see the gameplay overview if you don’t believe me! Just Cause games are always good fun… and they’re about to get funner from December 4th!

The Quiet Man

Making a smooth transition from live action trailer to gameplay and back again, nothing was said about The Quiet Man as we got a teaser telling us there’s more to come in August! Who is this man? What does he want? Why is he beating up blokes in an alley? Is it going to actually move between live action and game? All good questions but we’ll have to wait a couple of months to find out more! Keep your eyes peeled for this one!

Kingdom Hearts 3

After being shown at the Xbox conference and the release date announcement a few hours before that, we got a replay of the trailer for the new Kingdom Hearts which looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun and worth the wait! Just watch the trailer… what more is there to say really? 29th January it will be yours!

And that was it… with only a couple of announcements saved for their own conference, it feels like Square Enix have shared their biggest news with Xbox and Sony. With some stellar titles in the mix over the next year, Square always deliver great titles but it’s just a shame the show ended up being short, sweet and to the point.
