ESL to Power PlayStation 4 Competitive Gaming

ESL, the world largest Esports company who are also part of the digital entertainment group MGT, announced today that it will ESL competitive gaming systems and technology into the upcoming Tournaments feature available on the Playstation 4. This will allow millions of PS4 owners to participate in competitions organised by ESL. In addition, to being available through the console, tournaments will also be accessible for interactions, such a check-in, through both ESL Play and PlayStation App.

We’re incredibly excited to be able to offer this seamlessly integrated solution for the most passionate esports fans. ESL’s mission is to bring competitive gaming to fans around the world, and when doing so, to create an environment that allows them to fully focus on their gaming skills.” said Marcel Menge, Managing Director ESL Technology. “In the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, we’re going to host hundreds of weekly tournaments for players from any corner of the world. Anyone who wants to try their hand at competitive gaming, can now easily do so across a wide variety of titles.”

The first event available through Tournaments will be a major NBA 2K17 tournament to celebrate the beginning of the NBA season. Following on from there will be Project Cars, Mortal Kombat X and plenty more. The integration for this will be global, supporting 15 different languages to enhance competitive gaming for well over 40 million PS4 systems that have been sold world wide.

PS4 has been labelled the world’s top-selling console with more than 40 million units in gamers homes over the globe. From a report from Newzoo, there is an enormous potential for Esports growth in console gamers with only 25% of all players currently identifying themselves as competitive gaming enthusiasts. This will hopefully be a great boost for so many players that have yet to get involved with the competitive side of gaming. Many players still seem to feel unable to progress into this side of gaming and to push them forward through this could only be a positive. We are really looking forward to seeing how this progresses and what changes will come down the line.
