Happy 22nd birthday to the original Mario Kart game!!! If you have a Wii U and you have the Virtual Console download of Mario Kart, show it some love today!
So the free Mercedes-Benz DLC is due tomorrow for Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U but Nintendo have announced two expansions with some brand new tracks, characters and more! The Nintendo store put up details for ‘Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8’ showing release due for the end of November 2014 and May 2015. Costing £7 each and with both in a bundle for £11, there’s a fair amount of content for your money.
Nintendo have announced that the packs will officially be called ‘The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8’ and ‘Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8’. The first time non-Mario related characters have been featured in the game (PacMan technically doesn’t count because of it being a Namco spin-off). Head to the Nintendo e-shop and click on Mario Kart 8 add-on content to get yours…. Consider ours purchased! The Mercedes-Benz DLC is showing available to download too.
The first pack heading to us in November will contain 3 new characters of Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach and Link. There will also be 4 new vehicles and 8 new courses spread over 2 cups. I would have thought that there will be a mixture of brand new tracks incorporating more recent games and some retro tracks thrown in for good measure but these details haven’t officially been confirmed.
Pack numero dos which is due for release in May 2015 will follow the same structure. Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser will be the 3 new characters with a further 4 vehicles and another 8 tracks. Overall, 16 new tracks, 8 new vehicles to ride and 6 characters to play with. But that’s not all. Nintendo have said that as a bonus for getting both sets of content you can get 8 different-coloured Yoshis and a further 8 different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used ‘right away’.
From the pictures, you can see the majority of what the tracks and vehicles will be. We have spied that there looks to be the Blue Falcon from F-Zero with a themed course to match and Nintendo have confirmed that Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii will be featured also. With Villager and Isabelle from Animal Crossing being involved, there’s a related track shown in the collage. Either way, I’m liking the look of it as I’m currently trying to get a star in each cup on Mirror mode and some new tracks will be a great addition!
