Rise of the Tomb Raider: Xbox Exclusive

Big News for Xbox Fans!

So it has been officially announced by Darrell Gallagher from Crystal Dynamics at the Gamescon press conference that the Rise of Tomb Raider is going to be an exclusive Xbox only release!

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to the beautiful reboot of 2013’s Tomb Raider. The first trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider shows Lara Croft in a therapist’s office, anxious and unsettled over the horrific events of the first game, before she appears in a cave, her trusty bow in hand, and announces, “We become who we’re meant to be.” Dramatic even if I do say so myself.

Gallagher has been speaking on Tumblr on the decision to take Rise of the Tomb Raider to an Xbox exclusive“Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011 ….

“This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

“We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability.”

During the announcement the Xbox One was not specified, only that the release was coming to “Xbox” so this could also hit at the possibility of a release for the 360 too. This of course just could a temporary exclusive and might move over to the other platforms in time but as for the Holiday 2015 release it’s all about the Xbox!

I suddenly feel the need to rush back and go through Tomb Raider again now. I thought the redo of this title was amazing, from the beautiful landscapes and story to the gameplay itself. been a long time since a game had gripped me like this had. If the sequel is going to be anything like the original you can count me in!

  1. Not all bad news: (Taken from the gamespot website).

Thankfully for those worried they’ll never get a chance to play the game without owning one of Microsoft’s consoles, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has admitted to Eurogamer that this exclusivity won’t last forever. Asked if there is a limited period of time covered by the deal between Microsoft and Square Enix, Spencer replied, “Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn’t buy it. I don’t own the franchise.”

What he wouldn’t say is how long the game will remain Xbox-only. “It’s not because I’m trying to be a headfake on anybody,” Spencer said. “It’s a deal between us and the partner. People ask me how much did we pay. There are certain things I’m just not going to talk about because it’s a business deal between us and then. Obviously the deal does have a duration. I didn’t buy the IP in perpetuity.”
